The Inn was constructed in the 1820s along with the row of cottages it sits central to. Until the early 19th century Haytor Vale was a smallholding of Smallacombe Farm called Kennapark Wells. The history of The Rock Inn is related directly to the economic and industrial developments in the area around Haytor in the 19th Century.
Like everything else at The Rock Inn, our restaurant is built upon reputation. Our numerous eating areas throughout the building provide an intimate, yet friendly atmosphere for your meal. The restaurant is open to all, however we do get very busy so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
All meals are prepared by our resident, qualified chefs who, through their culinary art, produce imaginative and varied dishes, utilising freshly caught fish, locally sourced meat and game, and locally grown produce.
The Rock Inn has received an AA Rosette Award for Culinary Excellence every year since 1996 and has now been awarded 2AA Rosettes for the first time in 2016.
After a day exploring the magnificent countryside you will be ready for some relaxed and comfortable surroundings. All rooms are en-suite, well appointed with quality furnishings and decor, in keeping with the historical period of the Inn.
All rooms have colour television, direct dial telephone, and beverage tray. Each room is centrally heated, some have DVD players and some are equipped with a very interesting historical “mini bar” for dispensing spirits.
